Jose's story is a tragic reminder of the sacrifices made by many young individuals who serve their country. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, he joined the U.S. Marines at a young age, enlisting on August 10, 1966. After training, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he served in Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, part of the 1st Marine Division.
His service was cut short due to an accident that occurred while he was on a convoy run. The truck he was riding in overturned near the An Hoa Airfield, close to Danang, resulting in his untimely death due to intracranial trauma. He had served for a year, a month, and 21 days at the time of his passing, just 20 years old.
