Wayne McGuire served with honor and his sudden death has been connected to injuries sustained during his service in Vietnam.

Nineteen-year-old T-4 Wayne Thomas McGuire, a wounded Vietnam War veteran, was pronounced dead on arrival at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital on Thursday after collapsing while working at Lundell Manufacturing Company in Cherokee. McGuire had been seriously injured by shrapnel on the right side during combat in Vietnam last spring. After returning to the United States, he spent several months recovering at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver. Following an autopsy, Dr. Koser determined that McGuire's sudden death was linked to his injuries from the war.

He had come home on leave from the hospital about six weeks prior but had not yet received his discharge papers from the U.S. Army.
